Miio (Miio)
Miio said to everyone publicly:
Question: Should we do away with RSS importing into Miio and just keep it strictly LIVE conversations between REAL humans?

Discuss please.

I think so. That or limit the amount of imports that can happen to like one or two times a day. My whole feed is full of RSS imports and it makes it hard to keep up with those that actually use Miio.

I rarely look at the rss feed

I set it up but never really understood how it was supposed to work. I've gotten into some off 'cycle' situations where I tweeted which got buzz'ed and then miio'ed ... and then tweeted again... you see where I am going with this.

I turn off rss and location updates by default when i start following someone. I'm only interested in humans here on miio.

I think you have the right system in place. You can opt out of RSS feeds if you don't want them. Leave the decision to do so to the users.

RSS switched off in Public - RSS in My Timeline is becoming annoying - with no indication that an individual is connecting with Miio at all?

Mashable is a good example - they post messages via RSS, but provide no response and have delivered no article(s) on Miio. Beginning to wonder if they know we exist.

RSS import could go away and no one would notice.

Agree with jffcrmr - leave the decision to opt in or out to users

twechy replied:

@Riquochet Could work - But would require the addition of a "No RSS" button adding to My Timeline.

KatyAdams replied:

I personally don't use it. Tried it once but I get a lot of that stuff on twitter then on buzz. Some of the stories even get regurgitated on Fb. I like the human element here. There is such variety and everyone is just friendlier. It's very comfortable without all the 'noise'.

T replied:

@twechy - for the people you refer to ("no indication that an individual is connecting with Miio at all"), why not just stop following, or disable RSS for that user?

twechy replied:

@T Despite a dislike of "Faith" - I remain vaguely hopeful that I can help to convert them.

Switching off their RSS, or unfollowing, would disconnect me completely and they would be lost.

Does that sound a bit too puritanical???

I filter out rss. Turn it off as default and allow users just opt in or out of to recieve the feeds based on their preference. Like joining or leaving a group

@twechy See what you mean, maybe that's the way to go then...

I like the idea of opt in. Giving people the choice is the best way to go.
